With 3D visualization HMI operators reduce resolution time
September 19, 2024
By integrating KISTERS 3DViewStation as a component within a human machine interface (HMI), machine control and data visualization transform the operator experience. The software offers clear spatial displays, so operators can quickly locate problems within a machine. It also provides immediate access to as-maintained data, helping operators to swiftly perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and even order spare parts directly from the software.
Traditionally, HMI systems focus on machine control through text-based settings, (complex) programming, and sensor data. The human aspect of HMI seems overlooked. KISTERS 3DViewStation changes this dynamic, supporting the visual nature of people. HMI can now feature visually appealing 3D CAD models and highly informative graphics. New applications can enhance existing machine operation as well as control. Documentation for commissioning, maintenance, and precise diagnostics ensures clearer and smoother communication.
Here’s how it works: when an error or issue arises, operators get a text alert — that’s status quo. They can also be shown a 3D model to reveal the exact location of the problem within your complex assembly. All components are rendered in full detail and the faulty part highlighted in red (or a color of your choosing, if color-blindness is an issue). Automatic zoom and navigation features help operators identify the problem. Clicking on the 3D model can allow let operators check real-time status or explore historical data to investigate potential causes of failure. Spare operators the tasks of combing through manual logs or digital records. Operators can also verify the immediate availability (or backorder) of replacement parts and initiate an orders if needed. Step-by-step repair instructions or troubleshooting tips can be linked to the 3D model in various file formats (e.g. videos, illustrations, or PDFs), further reducing resolution time.
A prime example of this successful integration is with Pester Pac Automation GmbH. Since 2022 their packaging machines HMI have included visual navigation, a 3D-enabled spare parts catalog and a preventive maintenance solution powered by 3DViewStation. In the near future, 3D graphics will also be used in the company’s online product configurator.
Ralf Abler, Director of Innovation & Digital at Pester Pac noted, “I’ve never regretted working with KISTERS to develop a completely new 3D visualization for our HMI. The synergy and chemistry were right from the start!”
Benefits from the CAD visualization software can be realized in all areas, from product design to pre-sales with product configurators as well as after-sales service processes.
“Customers who integrate 3DViewStation provide their end-users with an additional value. People perceive up to 80% of all impressions by sight. Vision helps us find information we need more efficiently to make faster decisions. The 3D CAD graphic enhancement of benefits companies,” explains Craig Impastato, U.S. Sales Director for KISTERS.
Seamlessly integrate 3DViewStation into PLM systems like Aras Innovator, Siemens TeamCenter, and Dassault 3DExperience as well as product configurators and the Quanos spare parts catalog. Extensive interactive functionalities are available for every requirement, and there are numerous automation options for process optimization.
“Developers particularly appreciate the easy integration; only a few lines of code are required – without SDK (software development kit),” adds Impastato.
